A Tiny Announcement...

Well, so much for a month or two of "easy-going" bedrest...

I decided to have a baby instead.

Last Friday night my mild case of pre-eclampsia very suddenly became a severe case, dangerous enough to put the baby and I at great risk, so early Saturday morning I had an emergency C-section (29 weeks along). Chris wasn't able to make it back in time, since he and the kids were flying back from Virginia all day Saturday. We're all reunited now; I'm recovering well and feeling great.

The baby is tiny - born at 2 lbs 13 oz, and 15 inches long. He will reside in the Newborn ICU for 8-10 weeks. As far as we understand things, he is doing reasonably well. The major concern right now is his lungs; so he is getting lots of help breathing. We haven't even been able to touch him yet, but hopefully tomorrow we will have our first chance to hold him. It's been hard to get a good picture of him, but here's a little peek of him full of his wires, tubes, and even a huge bug-eyed mask...

We haven't named the baby yet, but hopefully will come to a truce in the next couple of days.

Thanks to everyone for your prayers and well-wishes. Despite the difficulties, we feel very blessed for the way things have progressed up to this point.

More details to come...

He's a cutie! How hard it must be to not be able to hold him. But I think there are not many things in this life that you can see the Lord's hand is as much as you can in the story of this little guy's birth.

Nancy, I'm so sorry that he didn't stay in there a little longer for you. Thank goodness for modern technology, however, and that you're feeling better. You're in for quite a ride ahead in the NICU -- I hope you get to hold him soon. The anesthesiologist at my girls' birth was born at 29 weeks (as were April & Sophia). I imagine your little soon-to-be-named-boy will accomplish great things in his life. He comes from a great family. I'll be thinking about you...

Nancy I am sorry you traveled some of the road alone. All of your family far away during a difficult time. Did you get any steroid shots before the birth? What is the besy way to contact you? What hospital are you in? I wanted to talk to you! Your family is in our prayers. I hope your recovery is going well-it sure opens up alot of questions and emotions! love you!

I was in shock when I read your post this morning. What a crazy thing to have to go through, especially alone. I would have been terrified! We will be praying for your new little guy and your family. Keep us updated on how he is doing.

I just realized I didn't mention anything about how terrified Chris must have been getting the call and being so far away. I am sure he went through quite a bit getting home and not knowing what he was coming home to. Sorry you guys are going through this.

Nanyc, I was just checking in to see what movies you have been watching or what books you've been reading. What a shock this sweet little boy's birth is to me! Were you able to have a friend with you during his birth? You and Chris are strong and can make it through this time!!

YOU ARE COURAGEOUS!!!
